Is CDKeys a Legit and Safe Video Game Site?
If you're a gamer, you've undoubtedly heard of CDKeys, but you may be asking yourself if CDKeys is legit? Or is CDKeys safe to use? We answer your burning questions below.
CDKeys is an online gaming retailer specialising in selling CD keys, also called product or serial keys. These keys are a combination of numbers and letters that activate video games, DLCs, and in-game currencies on platforms such as Steam, Xbox, Nintendo and PlayStation. They have over one million followers across their social media platforms and have been in the business for over ten years. In their ten years of experience, they have served over 20 million customers worldwide and have a catalogue of over 10,000 games.
My Experience with CDKeys
I am a huge gamer, to the point where I have characters in MMOs who, if they were real, are old enough to drink in the UK legally (my Guild Wars character is 19). I have used CDKeys as a budget-friendly place to buy games for over five years. My first purchase was for 2000 gems for Guild Wars 2 back in 2019, which cost me £15.99. Now, any fans of Guild Wars 2 will notice how great of a deal that is since 1600 gems bought from the in-game store cost £17, so I had 400 extra gems for £1 cheaper. Since then, I have been hooked. I have ordered gems again numerous times, but also Civilisation VI and its DLCs, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Super Mario Bros, Mount & Blade 2, Alan Wake 2, Final Fantasy 14 Dawntrail. The list goes on, and with up to 90% savings in their sales, CD Keys is the first place I would consider buying a game.
Is CDKeys safe?
Yes CDKeys are safe, they have been selling game keys for over ten years. They are also a Visa, PayPal, and Mastercard partner and provide safe payments on their site. They also have dedicated customer service, which I have used and had no issues with. Any problems I have encountered with a key (which have happened twice in the five years I have been using them) have led to a full refund.
CDKeys Reviews
And you don't need to take just my word for it or the word of CDKeys because the reviews speak for themselves. CDKeys has 4.8 stars out of over 185,000 reviews on TrustPilot as of October 2024.
They also have a 4.3 on reviews.io and 86.1% positive reviews over the last 12 months (at the time of writing) on SiteJabber.
What is a CD Key?
A CD key, also known as a product key, a game key, or a serial key, is a series of numbers and letters used to register and verify a video game. Because digital games do not have physical discs to act as a license or proof of ownership, they need CD keys to do so.
By entering your CD key into the 'redeem a key' tab on websites such as Steam, Epic Games, Xbox, Playstation, Nintendo and GOG.com, you get instant access to your new game.
How does CDKeys Work?
CDKeys legally buy keys from across the globe, taking advantage of price differences and exchange rates from country to country and passing the savings on to the customer. This is no different than currency exchange companies, which buy and sell foreign cash depending on the market. Also, because they are online only, they save on postage, storage, and other expenses related to physical games. Just make sure you buy a game key from the correct region you live in; otherwise, the key will not work, as some are region-locked. Confusion regarding this issue is one of the main reasons for complaints. Admittedly, one of my earliest purchases was when I accidentally bought Mario from the wrong region; however, the CDKeys customer service team refunded me, and I purchased the correct one the next day.
How Does CDKeys make money?
CDKeys takes advantage of the regional pricing of games, buying them in countries where they are cheaper and reselling them in countries where video games are more expensive. They then pass some of the savings onto the customer and the rest is profit. CDKeys also do not have to pay for delivery costs or storage costs for large stock because all of their products are digital.
Unlike companies such as Eneba and Kinguin who are a more of a marketplace, CDKeys focuses on buying the codes from official sources themselves and then reselling them to customers to make sure their codes are legitimate.
Do CDKeys offer refunds?
CDKeys has a dedicated customer service team that strives to solve any issues when buying your CD key. I have personally used the customer service team on two occasions. Once, I bought a game (Mario Bros) from a different region, and they fully refunded me. Then, another time, I had a game key that did not work for a Final Fantasy 14 DLC, and I was again fully refunded, though it took around four days for the return to be accepted.
Is CDKeys Legit?
So, to answer the question, is CDKeys legit? Yes, CDKeys.com is 100% legit. They acquire their codes legally, have thousands of positive reviews and a high score on Trustpilot and other review websites. Plus, they have a dedicated customer service team and have been around for over 10 years.
