Make the most of your favourite sports on TV with these tips for cheap takeaways and more.
You might not have come to terms with England losing the Euros yet, but don’t despair, this summer is packed with gold-standard sporting events. It’s a great opportunity to get your own team (aka friends and family) together. Watch the best of sports with delicious food and good company for less.
Keep on top of your game with my money-saving deals that will leave you feeling like a winner all summer.
Grab a Cheap Takeaway
Why not treat yourself to your favourite takeaway whilst enjoying the action? A delicious takeaway doesn’t have to cost a fortune either, you can save money by:
- Placing a midweek order, there are often discounts on the quieter days during the week so look out for those.
- Collect your order rather than have it delivered if possible. It can save an average of £4 if you do.
- Sign up to reward schemes, Papa John's, Mcdonald's, KFC, Pizza Hut, Pizza Express and Zizi all have them and you can often get a reward for just signing up.
- Order enough food for lunch and dinner. It might not be the healthiest option (it’s a treat right!) but by placing a larger order you save on delivery and potentially save money on large order deals.
- Share the cost! What better way to enjoy your favourite sports this summer than with your mates and family?
- Combine three tips for the ultimate hat trick - use a discount code, share the cost with mates and collect your order!
- Pizza lovers can get a cheap Domino's pizza by placing orders that offer the best value, there is more about this here.
Cook More, Spend Less
The supermarkets are rammed with deals at the moment from fakeaway meals to bargain booze. And this is a great time to put together some of your most loved dishes. Don’t forget to stock up on the all-important snacks too. You can make huge savings on groceries by:
- Setting a budget before you head to the shops.
- Make a list and stick to it, don’t get swayed by things you don’t need.
- Shop online, it’s easier to find all the special offers and you won’t be tempted by impulse buys.
- Use food waste apps like TooGoodToGo for groceries and takeaways. For a few quid, you can have a great stash of food for a fraction of the cost.
- Check out the reduced food section, those yellow stickers are gold winners! You can save between 30% and 80% on food that’s perfectly good to eat.
- Make the most of supermarket reward schemes, all the major supermarkets have them (except for Lidl and Aldi). And if you are shopping there anyway, why not earn some points and grab those exclusive Clubcard prices?
- If you have a week of sports watching lined up, why not plan your meals and consider batch cooking? The savings you make will leave you feeling like the real winner.
Celebrate Wins with a Bargain BBQ
Eventually, the summer weather will arrive (fingers crossed) or at least remain dry enough for some family time in the garden. And if nothing perks you up more than some bangers or burgers on the BBQ. Go for gold with my tips on how to get a cheap BBQ.
- Shop now - it might seem like Summer might be the most expensive time to buy a BBQ. But I’ve spotted BBQs and garden furniture reduced in many of the main supermarkets. The late arrival of summer has forced supermarkets to reduce their stock.
- Buy second-hand - eBay and Gumtree are packed with preowned BBQs and don’t forget local sites, like Facebook Marketplace. There will always be someone looking to upgrade or downsize, swoop in on the deals.
- When it comes to running costs, an electric BBQ is the cheapest to run. Whilst it may not seem traditional, they do save a few quid in running costs. The initial outlay may be more (unless you can get a refurbished deal). Consider how many BBQs you might have this season to see if it’s worth splashing out on.
- Don't forget to check for discount codes. MyVoucherCodes has a team of deal finders that grab the best discounts every day, including exclusive discount codes and rewards that you won't want to miss. We even have a dedicated home and garden section that might save you a few quid off a BBQ!
