An early version of Microsoft's latest operating system is expected to be released at an upcoming developers' conference in October.
Programmers attending the Professional Developers Conference (PDC) are expected to receive the first taste of the company's replacement for Windows Vista.
Michael Cherry, an analyst at Directions on Microsoft, told PC Advisor: "When that many developers [come] together, you want them to go home with something that they can play with."
He said programmers will be expecting more than just a presentation on the features to be included in Microsoft's latest operating system and expects the company to release some of the beta-stage code.
Mr Cherry added that the company might wait for a smaller gathering of developers to unveil the inner-workings of Windows 7.
Windows 7 is based around Microsoft's Vista operating system and, according to PC Advisor, the close ties between the two pieces of software may make it easier for businesses to upgrade.
