Samsung has unveiled a new netbook which the laptop manufacturer claims is aimed at first-time buyers.
The company's UK product marketing manager Dinesh Chand said the new portable computer will fulfil two fundamental roles and believes the future is bright for netbooks.
He claimed the low retail price will bring new customers into the laptop market as the netbook becomes a means for people to connect to the internet on the move and communicate with one another.
Mr Chand said: "The low price and practical functionality will bring millions of new people into the global web."
"They will become supplementary PCs and access points for internet services, media and information," he added.
Samsung's new netbook will be powered by Intel's Atom N270 processor and will be bundled with Microsoft's Windows XP operating system.
In related news, Samsung's former group chairman Lee Kun-Hee has been accused of tax evasion as South Korean prosecutors try to have him jailed, reports the Press Association.
